Lets all light a candle this evening to remember! This evening begins Yom Hashoah – Israel’s Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust and the Heroism. It is Israel’s national memorial day. It begins the evening of May 1st (in 2019) and ends on the evening of May 2nd. It is marked on the 27th day of the Jewish month of Nisan – a week after the 7th day of Passover, and a week before Yom Hazikaron – the Memorial Day for Israel’s fallen soldiers. It is observed as Israel’s national day of commemoration for the 6 million Jews (of them – 1.5 Million Children) who perished in the Holocaust as a result of the actions carried out by Nazi Germany and its collaborators. We will NEVER FORGET! On the morning of Yom Hashoah a siren is sounded for 2 minutes throughout Israel and all work and other activity stops while people remember those killed in the Holocaust. We light a candle to remember! “Magnified, sanctified, be thy holy name Vilified, crucified, in the human frame A million candles burning for the help that never came You want it darker Hineni, hineni I’m ready, my lord” Leonard Cohen
